Ingredients
- 1 large red onion
- 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 3/4 cup fat-free cottage cheese
- 1/4 cup low-fat mayonnaise
- 1 teaspoon cayenne
- 1 1/2 teaspoons prepared horseradish
- salt and pepper
- 2 egg whites
Recipe
- 1 preheat oven to 375 degrees f.
- 2 to prepare onion (you are going to create an onion much like the appetizers served at many restaraunts) slice bottom off onion, so it will stand flat.
- 3 going around onion, cut 20- 30 slits, starting your cut in the center of the onion.
- 4 don't cut all the way through, your slits should resemble petals from a flower.
- 5 set aside.
- 6 mix bread crumbs, garlic powder,paprika, and set aside.
- 7 mix together egg whites in a medium bowl and dip onion in to coat.
- 8 on a small plate, coat onion dipped in egg with bread crumb mixture.
- 9 spray lightly with cooking spray.
- 10 place on a cookie sheet coated lightly with cooking spray and bake 40-50 minutes until onion is tender.
- 11 while onion is cooking, prepare spicy dipping sauce.
- 12 place cottage cheese, mayonaise,horse radish, cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper in a blender.
- 13 blend until smooth.
- 14 dip onion petals into sauce and enjoy!
